Hi Stacy

DIM Ed Pol remains unchanged - which is why we haven't bothered answering complaints about Ed Pol from Gary and Rob. Their previous attacks on activists remain on DIM.

We made our decision based on Ed Pol and the circumstances surrounding the requests, as we do with anyone else. Not sure how we can clarify the discussion that led to these decisions. It was lengthy and presented all views. Ed Pol is interpretative. A guide.

We do not see the airing of Gary's views on land rights and culture as a personal attack. Other people (some genuinely concerned about Aboriginal human rights) have similar views.

Gary previously attacked threads (anonymously) supporting land rights and culture on DIM. He then berated a collective member who responded negatively to one of his anonymous posts.

Gary also claimed that NAP work with Aboriginal communities. They do not.

Three of our collective live on an Aboriginal community and visit others regularly. The hard work and stress this often entails, should not be credited falsely.

It is not our role to facilitate such deception. Which would happen if we hid/deleted the posts. Posts that Gary and Robert's attacks on activists and false claims provoked.

Our move to disassociate ourselves from Gary and Robert is not without precedent in the NT.

Cultural Protocol (darwin indymedia - Ed Pol)

To acknowledge that we reside on lands that were stolen by force from Aboriginal people.

To respect the traditional and customary beliefs of Aboriginal people and to appreciate the diversity and sometimes opposing beliefs of the many Aboriginal groups living in the (geographically-designated) Northern Territory.

To seek advice from those groups, when an article's cultural appropriateness is challenged.

Crap about myself has been posted on indymedias for years. We have good reason to believe much of it stemmed from Gary and Robert.

I'm tired of requesting its removal. It's easier not to post on sites that allow such attacks on their newswire in the first place. This has not prevented others from using indymedia sites to attack us - with impunity.

We are not asking other collectives to explain why they permit such attacks on us.

That's their business.

We have done our best to explain our decisions, without causing G&R fresh grief.

---------------------------------------

NB: We just received an email from a NAP member - that is total crap. Nor was he even present during the alleged incident.

It is also based on accusations that flooded the DIM site at inception - further evidence of NAP's previous attempt to gain control of DIM.

It is clear that NAP have hit a brick wall in their attempts to discredit us - and are trying another tack. It will be similarly counter-productive to NAP.

We have tried to spare Gary (and Robert) further grief - but will not allow their lies about us to go unchallenged.

regards

mick (IMC liaison) DIM
